Nathan Cameron Painting

This is a digital painting I did of my friend Nathan Cameron. I saved each step and there will be a step by step of this painting featured next Month in CG Arena's Digital Magazine. My Aretha Franklin will be featured as a step by step in July's 3D Total Magazine. Stay tuned for both of these.

Nathan is a good friend of mine who's a talented director/editor, he's filmed, directed, and edited music videos and short films . . . really cool stuff. He and I are currently finishing up my DVD on sketching . . . working on the editing end of things.

Detail. I felt it important even though I was going for a more realistic rendering to keep it brushy and loose in areas. It's painted and I want people to see that.

Here's the main reference of Nathan that I used for my painting.

Love it Jason, That detail is beautiful, the colors shapes and hair are all impressive. Tell him to print that upclose on a poster and hang it over his couch. Beautiful.

That's some nice distortion and a very cool painting style. I love it! Does it take you long to render like that?

You forgot to mention that Nathan also has the music in him. Has he ever met a karaoke machine he didn't like? :)

Very very cool man! The hair/facial hair is amazing on this piece. I hope when I grab your DVD I can get an understanding of how you do it.

I like the idea of retaining some loose painterly brush strokes. It makes a painting more interesting and offers more treats to the eyes than if it is highly polished and gives an overly-smooth digital feel.

When is your DVD going to be out? I can't watch to get one.

I know Nathan...seeing him grow up in the house...the fests, and I think this caricature seems to represent a greater facet of him than this photo reference does. I mean, it touches my impressions...and even goes to the root of his simply being a"Cameron"

Very impressive, Jason...an absolutely wonderful piece of art work!!! Love it..

I'll bet Nathan loves it as well!!
